the Week: In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and
brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for
then it costs nothing to be a patriot. -Mark Twain

Trivia
Rotary
– Rotary Youth Exchange is one of Rotary's most
popular programs to promote international understanding and develop lifelong
friendships. It began in 1927 with the Rotary Club of Nice, France. In 1939 an
extensive Youth Exchange was created between California and Latin America.
Since then the program has expanded around the world. In recent years more than
7,000 young people have participated annually in Rotary-sponsored exchange
programs.
Did you know that our membership
is below 100? It shouldn’t be! Try and bring someone to Rotary so they can see
all the great things our Club does!

Program
Afghanistan War by Kevin Shelanskey
Our speaker was Kevin Shelanskey 2/108th Infantry 27th Brigade
Combat Team. He graduated from New Hartford in 1999. He was at the World Trade
Center on the day it happened. He was on active duty from 1999 to 2003.
He was stationed in Iraq 2003 to 2004. Kevin was in Afghanistan for the whole
year of 2008 and is going back in March 2010. He showed us a slide show of
different areas of Afghanistan, and stated it is not all that the news
portrays. Many of the charitable
missions of our military and all the relationships they are forging with the Afghan
people are not reported as they probably should be. His slides and his commentary were extremely informative and
interesting. Good luck to Kevin as
he continues to represent our Country and to protect our freedoms.
