Program – Rome Memorial Hospital Sleep Disorders Center

Karen St. Louis from Rome Memorial Hospital gave an interesting program on sleep disorders and the new Sleep Disorders Center at the Hospital, open since November of 2009.  It is a four bed sleep center that has private rooms with private baths to ensure patient comfort.  65 Million Americans suffer from sleep problems including having trouble falling asleep, insomnia, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, snoring, breathing problems or nightmares.  She also spoke of obstructive sleep apnea which is a condition where a person stops breathing repeatedly during sleep because the airway collapses and prevents air from getting into the lungs.  The Sleep Disorders Center, during a patient’s stay, tests them for various disorders, diagnoses the problem and then works to find a solution to get the patient sleeping soundly.  Thank you Karen and Rome Memorial Hospital!
