Program –  Rome Main Streets Alliance – Joe Ferlo

Joe Ferlo of the Rome Main Streets Alliance delivered a very interesting program on the Alliance’s efforts.  They concentrate their work on four main areas – Design, Organization, Promotion and Economic Restructuring.  He pointed to their work in assisting the commercial façade program, the “Light Up Rome” initiative which involved the exterior illumination of the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier, Old City Hall Bell Tower, the Oneida County Court House and the Rome Historical Society.  He also spoke at length about their current project – the purchase and renovation of the old Aquino’s building on North James Street and the large yellow building directly to the south of it – these are huge projects and once they are completed, will be sold for a mixed use purpose – commercial and residential.  One can help the Alliance in all of these worth initiatives by buying “stock” in downtown, each share costing $15.00 and which will give you discounts at area businesses.  Please call the Alliance at 225-4259 if you are interested in purchasing stock or helping them by volunteering for their committee and board.  Thank you Joe!
