Program – Polio Eradication, Mike Occhipinti

This was a very special program centered around polio eradication.  D.G. Cholet announced that R.I. has raised 114 Million Dollars towards the Gates Foundation challenge of 200 Million Dollars.  Our club has given over $6,000.  Bill Tuthill and President Bob Herrmann then presented Bellamy Principal Nancy Opperman with a Paul Harris Fellow for coordinating the Pennies for Polio campaign in the Rome elementary schools.  Thank you for all your work Nancy!  Then, Bill Tuthill was given a Paul Harris pin with four sapphires for his contributions to the Rotary Foundation.  Then Bruce Fraser from Rome Savings Bank and also a prior Polio victim, announced that Rome Rotary met the $3,000 polio match with Rome Savings Bank and presented the club with a check for the Bank’s match.  Thank you Rome Savings Bank! Then Mike Occhipinti introduced Tim Ramos who is a Rome Firefighter and their union President – he presented the Club with two checks of $500 from the Fire Department and the Benevolent Association towards our Polio efforts.  Thank you so much to the Fire Department and their members.  It was a meeting filled with generosity.  Thanks to all.  Service Above Self.
