| The Rome Rotary Club Canalfest Fishing Derby was held on Saturday August 7, 2010 at the Bellamy Harbor Park, in Rome, NY. The derby was well attended, with 90 adults fishing and 50 children ages 12 and below. Each age group was divided into two categories: Gamefish and Non-Gamefish.
The first place winner of $100 in the Adult Gamefish category was Mike Aldrich with a northern pike that weighed 5 lb 1 oz. Rudy Orona's 1 lb 12 oz smallmouth bass won a $50 second place check.
The Adult Non-Gamefish category was quite challenging this year, with no big fish caught. Mike Aldrich caught a 9 oz bullhead, which netted him a $100 first place check. A 7 oz sunfish won $50 for Cory Hanson for second place.
The Children's Gamefish category first place winner, with a 6 lb. 2 oz. northern pike was Dylan Westcott. There was no entry for second place.
An 8 oz. perch won Daniel Clements a first place pay-off of $50 in the Children's Non-Gamefish category. His brother Wyatt took the second place honors and $25 with a 6 oz. rock bass.
Any child who caught and registered a fish, regardless of size, was entered in the "Lucky Fish" random drawing. The winner of the "Lucky Fish" drawing for a $25 check was Daniel Clements.
The Rome Rotary Club thanks the Rome Wal-Mart Super Center, the Rome Specialty Company (ROSCO), the Bobby Page Memorial Foundation, Herb Philipson's Army and Navy Store, Maurice Sporting Goods, and the Morgan's Bait Distribution Services of Rome for their outstanding support of this event.
